I have worked as an inventory clerk for over seven years now & am constantly surprised at the amount of Land Lords that do not think it is important to have a professional inventory carried out for a tenancy!
It is in the best interests of everyone involved with a rented property that an inventory is carried out. The purpose of an inventory is to protect both the Land lord & tenant during a tenancy.
An inventory lists & details the properties fittings, furnishings & decor.
I have seen too many beautiful properties to which damage has occured during a tenancy & similarly have met too many tenants that have not been treated fairly, with unreasonable deductions being taken from their deposits.
This has now been acknowledged & new legislation (TDS) is in place which will make it much harder for tenants & land lords to be treated unfairly.
A dispute can go to court & be a costly & a stressful experience for all parties involved & that is why it is essential that preventative measures are taken.
During my many years of experience creating inventories for many local land lords & letting agents, i have been gained a very in depth insight into the attention to detail needed to produce professional inventories.
The cost of having a check in /check out & inventory is minimal compared to the damages that could occur within your property during rental & i would advise anyone who owns or rents property to consider this.
